Only 12 People Have Been on the Moon

মাত্র ১২ জন লোক চাঁদে গিয়েছে

Neil Armstrong's blazing (ব্যাপকভাবে আলোচিত) lunar jaunt (চান্দ্রাভিযান) is common knowledge. Since that touchdown (ভূমিতে অবতরণ) on July 20, 1969, only 11 people have dirtied their boots with moon dust. But who were they? 

নীল আর্মস্ট্রংয়ের ব্যাপকভাবে আলোচিত চান্দ্রাভিযান সম্পর্কে সবারই জানা। ২০ জুলাই, ১৯৬৯ সালের সেই চাঁদের ভূমিতে অবতরণ করার পর থেকে কেবল ১১ জন লোক তাঁদের জুতায় চাঁদের ধূলিকণা লাগাতে পেরেছেন। তবে তাঁরা কে ছিলেন? 

 

From the years 1967 to 1972, NASA was focused on planting a flag on Earth's little orbiting buddy. With Project Apollo, six missions reached the moon. But its purpose went beyond just getting there. NASA's goals included the following:

১৯৬৭ থেকে ১৯৭২ সাল পর্যন্ত নাসা পৃথিবীর কাছের কক্ষপথে প্রদক্ষিণকারী বন্ধুর বুকে পতাকা লাগানোর দিকে মনোনিবেশ করেছিল। প্রকল্প অ্যাপোলো সহ, ছয়টি মিশন চাঁদে পৌঁছেছিল।

Developing man's capability to work in the lunar environment.

The only 12 people to set foot on the moon were all American men, and no one has been to the moon more than once. They are:

চাঁদে পা রাখা ১২ জনই ছিলেন আমেরিকান পুরুষ এবং একাধিকবার কেউ চাঁদে যায় নি। তাঁরা হলেনঃ

Neil Armstrong: He famously touched moon dust on July 20, 1969, on the Apollo 11 mission. A Navy pilot, engineer, and war veteran, Armstrong was Apollo 11's commander.

তিনি অ্যাপোলো-১১ মিশনে ২০ জুলাই, ১৯৬৯ সালে চাঁদের ধূলিকণায় অবতরণ করেন। নেভির একজন পাইলট, ইঞ্জিনিয়ার এবং যুদ্ধ অভিজ্ঞ আর্মস্ট্রং ছিলেন অ্যাপোলো ১১-এর কমান্ডার।

Buzz Aldrin: He was the second man to step on moon.

বাজ অলড্রিন:  তিনি চাঁদে পা রাখার দ্বিতীয় ব্যক্তি।

Pete Conrad: He was the commander of 1969's Apollo 12 mission to the moon.

পিট কনরাড: তিনি ১৯৬৯ সালের চাঁদে অ্যাপোলো-১২ মিশনের কমান্ডার ছিলেন।

Alan Bean: The lunar module pilot of Apollo 12.

Alan Shepard: He reached the moon as commander of the Apollo 14 mission.

Ed Mitchell: He was the lunar module pilot of Apollo 14.

David Scott: He reached the moon with Apollo 15 in 1971.

James Irwin: He was the lunar module pilot for Apollo 15.

John Young: He touched down on the moon as commander of the Apollo 16 mission in 1972.

Charles Duke: He reached the moon with Apollo 16 but is also well known for his role in Apollo 11.

Jack Schmitt: His feet hit the moon in 1972 as he served as Apollo 17's lunar module pilot.

জ্যাক স্মিট: ১৯৭২ সালে তিনি অ্যাপোলো-১৭ এর চন্দ্রযানের পাইলট হিসাবে কাজ করার সময় তিনি চাঁদে পা রাখেন।

Gene Cernan: Commander of Apollo 17, he was the last person to set foot on the moon.

জিন সার্নান: তিনি অ্যাপোলো-১৭ এর কমান্ডার এবং  চাঁদে পা রাখা শেষ ব্যক্তি।
