That many people infected with coronavirus are hiding information about the disease is a cause for concern because such behaviour is putting others who are coming in contact with the patients, especially doctors, nurses and medical staff, at great risk. It has been reported in the media that Covid-19 patients often do not disclose their symptoms to doctors when they go to a hospital for treatment because of the fear that telling the truth may deprive them of any treatment. We have come to know about a lot of incidents where patients with fever and breathing difficulties were driven away by the hospital authorities, and the family members of the Covid-19 patients faced harassment by people in their neighbourhood as they were either not allowed to enter the area where they live or were told to leave the place. It was even difficult for the family members of the patients to find transports to take their loved ones to a specialised hospital for treatment.

করোনাভাইরাস দ্বারা সংক্রামিত অনেক লোক এই রোগ সম্পর্কে তথ্য গোপন করে যা উদ্বেগের কারণ কেননা এই ধরনের আচরণ রোগীদের, বিশেষত চিকিত্সক, নার্স এবং চিকিত্সা কর্মীদের সংস্পর্শে আসা অন্যদেরকে খুব ঝুঁকির মধ্যে ফেলেছে। গণমাধ্যমে খবর প্রকাশিত হয়েছে যে কোভিড -১৯ রোগীরা চিকিত্সার জন্য হাসপাতালে গেলে চিকিত্সকের কাছে তাদের লক্ষণগুলি প্রায়শই প্রকাশ করেন না কারণ এই সত্যের কথা বললে তাদের কোনও রকম চিকিত্সা থেকে বঞ্চিত করা হতে পারে। আমরা এরকম প্রচুর ঘটনার বিষয়ে জানতে পেরেছি যেখানে জ্বর ও শ্বাসকষ্টের রোগীদের হাসপাতাল কর্তৃপক্ষ তাড়িয়ে দিয়েছিলো, এবং কোভিড -১৯ রোগীর পরিবারের সদস্যরা তাদের পাড়ার লোকেরা হয়রানির মুখোমুখি হয়েছিল, তাদের হয় প্রবেশের অনুমতি দেওয়া  হয়নি  যে জায়গাতে তারা থাকেন সে  জায়গাটি ছেড়ে যেতে বলা হয়েছিল। এমনকি রোগীদের পরিবারের সদস্যদের জন্য তাদের প্রিয়জনকে চিকিত্সার জন্য বিশেষায়িত হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য যানবাহন এর ব্যবস্থা করাও কঠিন ছিল। 

The social stigma associated with coronavirus infection has forced many to hide their disease from others, leading to further spread of the disease. A large number of doctors, nurses and medical staff across the country have been infected with the virus because, among other reasons, the patients did not disclose their real symptoms when they sought treatment.

করোনাভাইরাস সংক্রমণের সাথে যুক্ত সামাজিক গোঁড়ামি অনেককে নিজের রোগকে অন্যের কাছ থেকে আড়াল করতে বাধ্য করেছে, যার ফলে এই রোগ আরও ছড়িয়ে পড়ছে। সারাদেশে বিপুল সংখ্যক চিকিৎসক, নার্স ও মেডিকেল কর্মীরা ভাইরাসে সংক্রামিত হয়েছেন কারণ অন্যান্য কারণগুলির ছাড়াও, রোগীরা চিকিত্সা নেয়ার সময় তাদের প্রকৃত লক্ষণগুলি প্রকাশ করেননি।

In fact, the stigmatization of Covid-19 patients has resulted from people's lack of trust in a health system that is still not prepared to deal with the current health crisis. The inefficiency and mismanagement with which the health ministry and the Directorate General of Health Services had dealt with the outbreak at the beginning made people lose their faith in the system. Therefore, in an attempt to save themselves from the infection, people have been doing absolutely hateful things towards Covid-19 patients.

প্রকৃতপক্ষে, কোভিড -১৯ রোগীদের প্রতি গোড়ামিমূলক ব্যবহার মূলত একটি স্বাস্থ্য ব্যবস্থার উপর  মানুষের অনাস্থার প্রতিফলন করছে যা এখনও বর্তমান স্বাস্থ্য সঙ্কট মোকাবেলায় প্রস্তুত নয়। শুরুতে স্বাস্থ্য মন্ত্রনালয় এবং স্বাস্থ্য পরিষেবা অধিদপ্তর প্রধান জেনারেলর যে অদক্ষতা এবং অব্যবস্থাপনা মোকাবিলা করেছিল তা এই ব্যবস্থার প্রতি লোকদের বিশ্বাস হারাতে বাধ্য করেছিল। সুতরাং, সংক্রমণ থেকে নিজেকে বাঁচানোর প্রয়াসে লোকেরা কোভিড -১৯ রোগীদের প্রতি একেবারে ঘৃণ্য কাজ করে চলেছে।

We need to stop stigmatising the coronavirus patients and approach them with empathy. If people are not stigmatised, there will be no reason for them to hide the disease from others. But for that, they need to have access to the right information and proper knowledge about the disease. The government needs to conduct awareness campaigns about Covid-19 as well as the need for isolation and quarantine measures so that the thought of isolation or quarantine does not scare the patients. But most importantly, the government needs to restore people's trust in our health system by making it efficient and people-friendly where all Covid-19 patients will be treated with care and compassion.

আমাদের করোনভাইরাস রোগীদের প্রতি গোড়ামিমূলক ব্যবহার করা বন্ধ করতে হবে এবং সহানুভূতির সাথে তাদের কাছে যেতে হবে। যদি লোকেরা গোঁড়ামির শিকার  না হয় তবে তাদের অন্যদের থেকে এই রোগটি আড়াল করার কোনও কারণ থাকবে না। তবে তার জন্য তাদের এই রোগ সম্পর্কে সঠিক তথ্য এবং সঠিক জ্ঞান থাকা দরকার। সরকার এর প্রয়োজন  কোভিড -১৯ সম্পর্কে সচেতনতামূলক প্রচারণা চালানোর পাশাপাশি বিচ্ছিন্নতা এবং পৃথকীকরণের ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণের ।যাতে রোগীদের বিচ্ছিন্নতা বা পৃথকীকরণের চিন্তা তাদের আতঙ্কিত না করে। তবে সবচেয়ে বড় কথা, জনগণের আস্থা ফিরিয়ে আনতে  সরকারকে আমাদের স্বাস্থ্য ব্যবস্থাকে দক্ষ ও জনবান্ধব করে তুলতে  হবে যেখানে সমস্ত কোভিড -১৯ রোগীকে  যত্ন ও সহমর্মিতা সহ চিকিৎসা  করা হবে।
