3. Write a precis of the following passage in your own words. Give a title to your precis.                                                                                      15

Not a few of our troubles are the result of acting before thinking; we do our thinking afterwards, and too late. It would be difficult to reckon how many friendships have been broken up simply because one of the friends did not use his head. He thought to have known; he did not know; but he simply did not think; and what he did or said cannot be undone or unsaid. Afterwards we recall the matter and wonder why we were such fools; and then we got out and play the same fool trick for the thousand-and-first time. A little thinking might save a thousand useless regrets.

It is difficult lesson to learn, but it can be mastered. It will not be easy but it can be done, and it will repay a thousand fold all the labor necessary for its accomplishment. To learn to think just before we speak, just before we act, is something which  thousands never learn, and all their lifetime they regret the fact because of its inevitable consequences; and yet they might have learnt the lesson in early life and saved themselves and their friends much necessary worry.

6. Translate the following passage in English:                             15                                                                                  

রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর বলেছেন, “শিক্ষা হলো এক টুকরা হীরা এবং সংস্কৃতি হলো এর বিচ্ছুরিত আলো।” তাই একজন শিক্ষিত লোকের সভ্যও হওয়া উচিত। জনগণকে যথাযথ ধারণায় সভ্য হতে হবে এবং সংস্কৃতি হওয়া উচিত আমাদের নিজস্ব ঐতিহ্যের ছাঁচে গড়া। সংস্কৃতি শব্দটা বিশাল। এটি সঙ্গীত, সাহিত্য, নাটক এবং চারুকলার অন্যান্য অংশ ধারণ করে আছে। দেশের আসল চিত্র তার সংস্কৃতিতেই প্রকাশ পায়। সংস্কৃতির কর্মক্ষেত্রে দেশীয় সংস্কৃতি খুব বড় ভূমিকা পালন করে। সভ্যতান উষালগ্ন থেকে জীবনযাত্রা ও ভাবনার জগতে সংস্কৃতির একটি গৌরবান্বিত ও অনন্য ইতিহাস রয়েছে। এটা অপার্থিব, দার্শনিক এবং চিন্তা ও চেতনার জগতে বিগ্নমুক্ত আত্মত্যাগী। সংস্কৃতি মানুষের জীবনযাত্রার ও শিক্ষার প্রতিফলন করে। কুটির শিল্প, সঙ্গীত, নৃত্য, লোকসঙ্গীত এবং বিভিন্ন রকমের বাদ্যযন্ত্র তৈরীর দক্ষতার প্রতি মানুষের সৃষ্টিশীল উদ্যম সমৃদ্ধ করে।

বাংলাদেশের সংস্কৃতি আমাদের ধর্মীয় বিশ্বাস প্রতিফলিত করে যা আমরা আমাদের পূর্বপুরুষের কাছ থেকে উত্তরাধিকার সূত্রে পেয়েছি। ১৯৭১ সালের মুক্তিযুদ্ধ ও ১৯৫২ সালের ভাষা আন্দোলন আমাদের সংস্কৃতির ইতিহাসের গৌরবান্বিত উজ্জ্বল দিক। যদিও অর্থনৈতিকভাবে জাতি হিসেবে আমরা দরিদ্র, এর একটি দিকের অর্থপূর্ণ সংগ্রামের মাধ্যমে বেঁচে থাকার ঔজ্জ্বল্য আছে।
